I think that a universal grading system would be a great idea. I would support the idea, but then you have the arguement that not all schools teach the same material. Also, one class might be harder at one school compared to another.
Yes, yes, yes! Our 2-8 did use a scale where the lowest passing grade was a 70% while 9-12 used 90,80,70,60. In theory, the scale for the younger grades was supposed to increase rigor, but it only served to undermine the self-confidence of students. This fall everyone will be on the standard scale. Rigor should come from what is happening in the classroom and not from an arbitrary scale.
It would be nice if there was a common grading scale used. I think it would take a lot of extra effort and work to come to a consensus about what the grading scale should look like.
